Kintore Pipe Band 1921-2007 |
Welcome to the much needed update to the website. Technical difficulties and a severe lack of 'know how' has
resulted in the website not having an update in the last 4 years! We will endeavour to keep it up to date from now on.
Band basics... The pipers and drummers enjoy playing throughout the season at locations all over the north east at Fairs, Galas, Weddings, Charity Events, Highland Gatherin's and Record Breaking Attempts! Not confined to the north east the band are seasoned travellers playing at locations as far away as the Chez Republic and Belgium. A small contingent of the band have played in New York and more recently the Pipe Major impressed audiences in Kazakhstan! KPB are one of few bands which has survived and entertained continuously for over 85 years - a claim that very few bands can make. Photos of Kintore Pipe Band dating back to 1921 were believed to have been the earliest recording of the bands existance until more recently a photo dating back to 1916 was discovered. The band are principally interested in playing for enjoyment, but occasionally participate in competitions. We have been known to pick up the odd prize too! Forres Games in 1999 saw the Drum Corp win third prize, Braemar Highland Gatherin' 2001 saw Kintore win best turned out band with the trophy presented by none other than Her Majesty the Queen, and most recently in 2004 the Old Meldrum Sports day brought further success with Kintore picking up another trophy. The band has many juniors eagerly practising hard so that they can join the band on its engagements. Band practice occurs every Monday evening from 7.30pm at the Kintore Primary School (Kintore Scout Hall during school holidays). Beginner pipers meet on Thursday evenings, also at the school, from 7.30pm (this class is not held during school holidays). If you are interested in coming along then please get in touch with the pipe major in the first instance. These classes are open to mature students also and best of all there is no charge......absolutely free!!!! Visitors are always welcome! Engagements in 2007...
